Minimum order quantity (MOQ) is usually the first constraint new importers hit when sourcing plush toys. Here's what drives it and how to work with it.
Typical MOQ Ranges
Most plush toy factories set MOQ between 300 and 1,000 pieces per design/colourway. Namaste Overseas sets MOQ at 500 pcs — high enough to justify fabric cutting and stitching setup, low enough for growing brands and first-time importers.
Why MOQ Exists
Plush production involves fabric cutting dies, embroidery digitizing, and dedicated stitching line setup — all fixed costs that need to be spread across enough units to keep per-piece pricing reasonable. Below MOQ, per-unit cost rises sharply or the factory simply declines the order.
Can MOQ Be Negotiated Lower?
Sometimes, for pilot orders (e.g. hospitality trial programs) or when multiple SKUs share the same base pattern with only surface decoration changed. Expect a per-unit price premium in exchange for a lower minimum.
Stacking MOQ Across Designs
If you need variety without hitting 500 pcs on each individual SKU, ask whether the factory allows MOQ to apply per style-family rather than per exact colourway — this is common when designs share the same plush body and only fabric/embroidery differs.
